ASLI VUSLATERİ
Aslı Vuslateri is a gifted Turkish percussionist whose specialty is Latin American and Cuban rhythms and who plays the whole family of percussions. She is one of very few Turkish female musicians with rare mastery over an extensive range of percussion instruments.
Born on September 8, 1981, Aslı exhibited her talent for music at an early age; she was nine years old when her elementary school teachers discovered her gift and encouraged her to take up her very first instrument, the keyboard. While enrolled at the Bursa Atatürk High School, Aslı joined the school choir, directed by Arife Koman. The group performed at a number of prestigious venues including Tayyare Kültür Merkezi and Bursa Outdoor Performance Stage. In her senior year at high school, Aslı started out on her long career in music with the private voice lessons from Ms. Koman.
Between 1995 and 1999, she furthered her music education by receiving training in Turkish Music from at the Bursa Municipal Conservatory, where Erdinç Çelikkol was the General Director for Arts. She quickly learned to play the two traditional music instruments, the oud and kudüm (small double drums). Upon the successful completion of her education, Aslı moved to Istanbul and took two years of voice lessons from Cengizhan Sönmez, one of the acclaimed radio singers on the state-owned Turkish Radio and Television broadcast agency.
